Castelbuono city
This pretty and well tended village in the Madonie Park, is quite attractive for its architecture. Castelbuono is one of the last places in the mediterranean where the manna "tree" (manna is a natural sweetener abundantly used in local pastries and collected from ash trees) is still grown. Castelbuono also boasts modern and ecologically friendly practices; in fact, in Castelbuono, donkeys are used to collect the town's rubbish door-to-door. This eco-project was started in 2007 by mayor Mario Cicero.
