Caltagirone (Catania) - La scala infiorata (The Scala Flower Festival)
The Scala Flower Festival, an annual celebration held as a tribute to Our Lady of Conadomini, patron and protector of the city of Caltagirone, features about two thousand potted plants and flowers of different shades and colors arranged on the historic staircase of Santa Maria del Monte to create one grand design. Built in the early 17th century and undoubtedly Caltagirone’s most evocative sight, the monumental staircase showcases 142 steps, each uniquely decorated with hand-painted majolica tiles

Alcara Li Fusi (Messina) - Festa del muzzuni (The Feast of Muzzuni)
This popular celebration features many pagan rituals dating back to the worship of the goddess of earth and fertility, Demeter; also linked to the celebration of the summer solstice. On the walls, balconies and on the streets are spread out the colorful “pizzare”: typical carpets weaved with the old pedal loom using fabri cut outs.
