The town is best known for the Shrine of Padre Pio, a Capuchin friar and a mystic. 7 million pilgrims, attracted by the mystic’s fame, visit the Shrine each year. The new Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church can accommodate 6,500 seated worshippers and 30,000 standing outside.
